Yes, you will need your own instrument. If you're not ready to buy one, you can rent a violin from a music store or from The Violin Room. I can help you choose the right size and quality for your needs.
You can start learning the violin at any age! I teach both children and adults, but my lessons are best suited for learners aged 7 and up. At this age, students usually have the attention span and coordination needed to begin structured lessons. It’s never too late to begin your musical journey, whether you're starting at 7 or 70!
Weekly lessons are recommended for steady progress and skill development.
Consistency matters more than length! Beginners can start with 10–15 minutes a day. More experienced players may practise 30–60 minutes daily. I’ll help you build a practice routine that suits your lifestyle.
Exams (like ABRSM, Trinity, or UNISA) are optional. I’ll guide you if you choose to do them, but they’re not required for enjoying or progressing in music.
The violin is a beautiful but challenging instrument, and progress takes time. With regular practice, you’ll begin to develop solid technique and a good sound within the first few months. Simple pieces come with consistent effort, but like any skill, the journey is gradual. The key is to enjoy the process, celebrate small wins, and trust that steady practice leads to real progress.
Please Note: My Muizenberg teaching studio has moved to a new location. From August 2025 I'll be at 17 Palmer Road, Muizenberg.
